Corporate Sponsorship and Private Patronage: Why We Need Them
Ideally any theatre company would like to be self-sufficient. In reality at the moment that is hard. Small to middle scale theatres cannot - even when they sell out - support all the personnel and costs involved from writers, composers, performers, directors, sets to administration, travel costs, publicity to the quality required. Sometimes, Theatre Kwong does receive funds from local and international funding bodies, but only on a project to project basis. Theatre Kwong is always expected to raise additional funds - indeed sometimes the majority. However, at the moment we have an opportunity to grow. We are constantly developing innovative ways of working with venues and communities that will not only help build our audiences for the future but increase participation in and access to the theatre for both the local and Asian communities in Perth.
To ensure our productions go ahead and are of the highest quality, we need to raise money for talent fees, technical and stage crew wages, script-development work, licensing and royalties, travelling and administration costs, venue hire, and all aspects of production including costumes, sets, props and technical equipment. That is why Theatre Kwong seeks Corporate Sponsors and Private Patrons to assist in its development - and being a smaller company, all sponsors and patrons can have a closer personal involvement rather than being one of hundreds of sponsors for a major company. We reward all sponsors and patrons with complimentary seats, VIP treatment and printed acknowledgments on posters, programmes, flyers, and all things that a sponsor or patron may wish.
