occupational Health and Safety Policy and risk management system

(In compliance with the Australian OH&S Act 2000 and Regulation 2001)

Occupational Health and Safety Policy

A theatre, like any other industrial workplace, is a potentially dangerous area involving working at height, lifting and carrying weight, working with electrics, power tools, hazardous substances and often working in restricted spaces and in limited light. Theatre Kwong is committed to the provision of a safe and healthy workplace for all staff, visitors, contractors and students. To meet this commitment, Theatre Kwong will endeavour to control risks to workplace health and safety.

An Occupational Health and Safety Policy documents Theatre Kwong’s commitment to providing and maintaining a safe environment for all those working in and visiting the rehearsal space and the performance space / theatre. Responsibility for adhering to safe working practice, within OSH guidelines, for risk assessing tasks and construction and for training staff in manual handling and general OSH awareness falls to the Executive Producer and Production Manager.

Risk Management System

The aim of the Risk Management System is to find and fix hazards before incidents occur. In the event that an incident does occur, the risk management program is similarly implemented to ensure that appropriate corrective action is undertaken, the effectiveness of corrective actions evaluated, and steps taken to ensure no recurrence of the incident.

Care is taken that fire regulations are strictly observed, that risk assessments are carried out and acted upon, that technical staff are adequately trained and that actors and stage management are assured of a safe working environment.
